Happy Lunar new year for everyone who celeberate it. This special day came in the perfect time this year, in a Friday. My goverment has made lunar new year as holiday since araound a decade ago, but this year lunar new year is the one that I enjoyed most. Maybe because right now I am an employee who works five day a week so this holiday make me has a long weekend. When I was a student, I used to have class in saturday, so if had any holiday on friday, I would hate it intead of feeling excited as it just made the saturday became even harder to be going through.
Another thing that make the timing of this holiday is great is I have loads of fantastic movies on my list. So I’ve spent the last 2 days on theater watching 4 terrific movies. They were American Hustle, The Legend of Hercules, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Jack Ryan : Shadow Recruit. And this post will be my review of all those movies.
American Hustle
This is the first movie that I watched in this loooong weekend. I have to admit that the main reason why I wanted to watch this movie was the one and the only because the supporting actress, Jennifer Lawrence. I’ve been her fan since the first time I watched her first X-Men movie but what have made me falling for her is her interview sessions. She’s cute and has sexy body, but her main asset is her adorable personality and, of course her amzing talent on acting that has made her winning some prestigious awards. She has won oscar as main actreess and I bet she can win another oscar this year as supporting actress for her role in this movie.
Her role in this movie is a depresed wife who has to act as single mother for her son when his beloved husband keep playing around, con people and fuck another women. She has something like mental problem that make her don’t really like to meet people, at least it was she said the movies. She is such of a pitifull woman who always to be loved by her husband whenever he eventually come home. At the beginning of the movie, she rarely appeared on the screen. But in the middle of the story, there is a moment when Atlantic City’s major invited her husband to the party and demanded of the present of his wife.The major and his wife were happened to like her albiet they knew how crazy she was and the story goes on.
Her husband was trying to deceive the major, setting a trap for him. The major was actually a good person who loved his city and had desire to rebuild the city. An FBI agent had plotted a scenario where the major would look like taking a bribe so he could catch him and got a promotion. All he need just a smart con man like Jen’s husband to execute his plan. Everything was good but suddenly became complicated for all of them when they had to deal with a very dangerous gay in order to open a casino at Atlantic City. But in other hand, Jennifer found a new lover among the cassino guys and started to go out with him.
At the end of the story, Jen’s husband strike back the FBI’s agent to save his own ass and his girlfriend. He also intented to help the major a little bit, tried to make his sentence lighter because he knew he didn’t deserve it. He and his girldfriend demanded immunity and they got it. Jennifer continued her relationship with her lover and they had good term togheter. It was happy ending for every one except the FBI agent who didn’t get his promotion.
I know it’s not a good review, but the movie is absolutely great. The plot and the cast are fantastic and they’s won Golden Globe at some categories so I shall say that this movie is really recommended.
The Legend of Hercules
Hercules, I think almost everybody in this world know his name, the greatest warrior in ancient grace mitology. Actually, I had no any special reason to watch this movie. I didn’t know the star, I also didn’t expect a good story plot. But, I had known Hercules since I was kid, so I thought it would be wasted if I didn’t watch it. And for additional reason, they had made quite impresive thriler, especially the action scene, but I am in the midle of 20s now, so I don’t enjoy fighting scene as much as when I was younger. In the end, I kept my decision to watch this movie.
As you may know already, Hercules was son of Zeus, the leader of the gods, and his mother was a mere human. His foster father, the husband of his mother, was a great king, the conquer of other kings. Hercules was gift from goddes Hera, Zeus’s wife, regarding Hercules’s mother wish that her husband would be more tender and brought piece instead of war. His foster father was aware that he wasn’t her child but had no idea that Zeus was his father. He loved Hercules’s brother more than him but his wife love Hercules.
The king set up plan to kill Hercules by sending him to egypt. But Hercules survived and back to Grace. He led mutiny againts his father and he won. He married the woman he loved and lived happily ever after, just like any other fairy tale. Yeah, actually the story was indeed not bad. The fighting scenes, especially the slow motion effect was terrific, one of the best, I think. The only minus thing about this movie is I, unfortunately, watched this movie just after I finished watching American Hustle. Both of them are lebeled as adult movies, the level of plots between them is extremmely different.
American Hustle has many conflicts in it, the struggle among the characters won’t be understood by kids. In other hand, the only reason that Hercules become adult movies is it has some bed scenes, which will be unappropriate if it’s seen by kids. That’s the difference, however Hercules is still decent to be watched.
The Wolf of Wall Street
I’ve always admired Leonardo DiCaprio’s work since he was young. I’ve watched some movies of his, like the most famous sink ship movie, Titanic, and then, a movie about a paradise in Thailand, The Lost Island. I’ve also seen Blood Diamond, a movie about diamond black market in Africa. All of them are wonderfull movies, excellent acting by DiCaprio, so is this movie. This story about a succesful stock marketer, who built his own company from zero until became the conqurer of wall street.
He started with selling some mere stocks, but it was works and made him gain quite much money. He assembled some guys from his origin, and made them worked for him, and they he tought them his method convincing people to buy their stocks. He only need around five years to be very successful in his bussiness. Many young peeple desperately wanted to work under him and did some interviews with pretigious magazines that raised up his image. He did everything to make him even richer and richer, both legal and illegal. Lately, he even changed his wife. He divorced his faithfull wife, who had companied him for years and married a royal blood, a sexy blonde super model. They had 2 cute little girls and lived at a luxury mansion. He had private helicopter and gave his beautiful wife, a 51 yard yatch as wedding gift. What a perfect life. But unfortunately, unlike Hercules, he didn’t have happily ever after life after his marriage.
FBI had smelled something wrong with his business and started investigating him. After years of hardwork, they gathered enough evidences and arrested him. His arresting wasn’t only the bad news because After knowing it, his wife divorced him took away their daughters. He sold all of his friend, colleague and business partness in order to decrease the years of his sentence. He succesfully made it. He just got 3 years in prison instead of 20 years.
In the end of the movie, he had a world tour as motivator and sales teacher. He restarted the new carrier that actually he had began even before he got arrested. I don’t know what happen with all the people that got arrested along with him or what his 2 former wife had been doing, but without them, he look like having a new life, went back to right track becoming rich again, altough not as rich as before.
Jack Ryan : Shadow Recruit
It is a movie that’s based on novel by legendary author Tom Clancy. As expected from Clancy’s work, this movie is about patriotism and contain high level political conflict. Jack Ryan, an undercover CIA analist, who’s also a fomer marine with Ph.d title, suddenly got a field mission to Russia. His pretty girlfriend, who was played by the awesome woman, Keira Knightly, unexpectally followed him to Moscow one day later without knowing her boyfriend’s true identity.
Lately, Jack revealed the truth about him to his girl friend and even included her to this mission. It was dangerous mission. Keira got kidnapped but Jack barely saved him and he found out that Russia was planning to attack New York downtown, Manhattan. Just like any other action movie, he fought the bad guy and his heroic actio saved, not just the people of New York, but his country economi.
I have not much to talk about this movie, because it don’t have many twisting. But I recommend this movie and I am pretty sure it’s worth to spend your money watching this movie.
